SP5 Quiz

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?

Not so much. I mean, to me, it's all about the feel. If it's soft enough, I'll use it. So, I tend to avoid "real" wool, unless it's for a felting project (dude, I'm in Florida), and it seems like a lot of projects are for babies. Oh, and washability. So much of my stuff is for gifts, and heck, I can't stand to handwash stuff. LB Homespun is fine (and washable), and I think it's Caron makes something that's really soft too. LB seems to make a lot of interesting snob-yarn-knockoffs-at-drugstore-prices. However, I've been dying to try Noro (whatever kind, self-striping) out for something, and there's something spa-like about wandering through my gourmet LYS and looking at the gorgeous handpainted colorways.

2. Do you spin? Crochet?

nope and nope

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)

Only some environmental sensitivity (mold and pollen, I think)

4. How long have you been knitting?

Hmm. I first learned in early high school, and then picked it up again in my early 20's. So, this stint is going on 10 years. However, I'm only just starting to feel confident enough to try anything remotely complicated, and since this is purely an unwinding hobby for me, if it's too much work (like remembering what row I'm on), I won't do it. I'm starting to sound pretty grouchy, I know. Oh, and I don't tend to block and I don't like sewing things - not because of the dislike of sewing itself, but because I don't trust my stuff to be sewn strongly enough to survive normal wear and tear.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

I do have one on amazon. I recently added some nice looking books. :^)

6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)

Hmm. Subtle, natural scents. Vanilla, Honeydew, lavender, etc.

7. Do you have a sweet tooth?

Hah. yes. but I'm also in Weight Watchers.

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?

I scrapbook, but that's been woefully neglected due to space issues - I don't have the motivation to get all the stuff out and don't want to have to put it away again. I sew a little. Easy things - no buttonholes or zippers. I like to cook, however, I'm pretty limited on time. I have an ambitious list of DIY projects to improve the home also.

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

My computer should be able to do that. Musically, I'm a child of the 80's (REM, Oingo Boingo, 10,000 maniacs, U2, etc). I also like the oldies station, and have been finding myself on the jazz station too. The recent stuff that I like...I never seem to know the names of the songs and/or artists. Lately I've been listening to Sarah McLaughlin, Elvis, Joni Mitchell, and Norah Jones. I wish I'd brought my Jimmy Buffet CD in to work too.

10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?

Purple. I tend to pick oceanic colors (aquas, blues, greens). I like pink too. And I've been intrigued by orange lately too, though I haven't figured out how to use it yet. Sunshine yellow. Red is nice, but not my favorite. Sometimes I just feel gray. I really don't like magenta, and I probably wouldn't pick black. My mom's friend called me Colorful Cathy when I was young, and I don't think I've strayed too far from that.

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

I have a dog, Tiger, 2 kids (one bio and one step- a boy age 11 (step) and a girl age 2 (bio)), a husband, and my MIL who has Alzheimer's lives with us too.

12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)

For my kids to grow up to be "big and strong", for my MIL to not know the misery of end stages of AD, to live happily ever after with my DH.

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?

Stuff with some stretch to it is a lot easier, and larger weights. I don't mean super-chunk, use a size 32 needle or something, but worsted or heavier. I get a little carpel-tunnely otherwise.

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

Anything itchy.

15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?

I'm working myself up to try socks. Previously, felting fascinated me, and if I complete them, these will be my first sweaters, ever.

16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Hmm. I knit a lot of scarves, hats, and baby blankets. I'm just now trying my hand at sweaters. And, there's something to be said for a quick turnaround project.

17. What are you knitting right now?

Right now. Two toddler sweaters, a French Market Bag, and a baby blanket.

18. What do you think about ponchos?

That's a lot of knitting for something I won't wear.

19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?

Circs, in general. I like the balance of it. DPN are an interesting sport.

20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

not picky. However, I just inherited like a thousand needles from my grandmother's stash. I should be set for quite a while.

21. Are you a sock knitter?

No, but I aspire to be one.

22. How did you learn to knit?

My grandmother taught me. Then when I picked it up again, my aunt sent me a booklet.

23. How old is your oldest UFO?

Since the beginning or since abandonment? Probably about 4 years.

24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?

sea turtles. Snoopy.

25. What is your favorite holiday?

Memorial Day. July 4th is my second favorite. Anything where we get a free day off work without the pressure of having to surprise or gift our loved ones.

26. Is there anything that you collect?

At this point? Yarn. My husband looks at me suspiciously whenever he catches me with a box of yarn from an online merchant.

27. What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

I just subscribed to Interweave Knits.

28. Any books out there you are dying to get your hands on?

I think I added something to my list. There was a Zimmerman one that I wanted. I'll have to go figure out which one again. It was the one with the surprise baby sweater in it, if that helps. I updated my Amazon list with lots of nice-looking knitting books.
